The 2012 US Olympic Trials Marathon was ran this past weekend in Houston, TX.  The top 3 men and women would get the opportunity to represent the United States coming up in the 2012 Summer Olympics to be held in London.  There were 85 male finishers and 152 female finishers.

The United States will be represented in London by one of its strongest teams ever.  On the men’s side, the top three finishers were Meb Keflezighi, Ryan Hall and Abdi Abdirahman.  Keflezighi won the race in 2 hours 9 minutes and 8 seconds.

On the women’s side, the top three finishers were Shalane Flanagan, Desiree Davila and Kara Goucher.  Flanagan took top honors with a time of 2 hours 25 minutes and 38 seconds.

It is a big honor for all who competed in the Olympic Trials.  In order to qualify, runners had to run a qualifying time of at least 2 hours 19 minutes for the men and 2 hours 46 minutes for the females.  These are the fastest marathon runners in the United States and they performed in spectacular fashion over the weekend.  Congratulations to all the competitors and good luck to the Olympians as they train for the big race in London this summer.
